Mind Shadows?

I have decided to try my hand at a little bit of fiction.

Many, many years ago, I took both playwriting and creative writing courses, and as I explained once before, I also managed to teach a writing class at an Arts Center when I lived in North Carolina.  I have now been “publishing” this little blog of mine for more than a year, and although I do wish I could get around to putting my thoughts on this electronic paper more often, in general I have been pleased with what I have produced.

SIDE NOTE:  For those who have been waiting for the next instalment of our Ireland adventure, I promise it is coming soon.

So I have been bouncing a number of ideas around in my head, and they always seem to get lost before I can really get them down, so I decided the best way to write a story for me was the same way I write here.  So that is exactly what I have decided to do.  For lack of a better word, I am calling it an online novel.  In reality, I guess you would call it a collection of short vignettes that I will be calling chapters, strung together to form a complete story.  I hope.

Basically, all I have done is created another blog that will serve as my pen and paper.  But unlike this blog, the entire “novel” will be a work in progress.  Outside of the main four characters, I have not really put much thought into where the story is going.  I have a few basic ideas, but I plan to just let the story develop however it may.  Also, unlike this blog, I may go back and make changes or edit previous chapters as the whole story developes.  Honestly, I just don’t know where this thing is going to go.

I have named the novel Mind Shadows, which I give a brief explanation about in the first chapter. It has already been posted and can be found at brothertomsmindshadows.wordpress.com.  Although what I am putting together is indeed a work of fiction, as with most stories, this one was inspired by a true event, and some people I know will recognise the basic premises.  I do not intend for my story to in any way reflect on the real people who were the inspiration for this tale.  I have taken a specific incident that happened to someone else, and tried to develop a story based on how I feel my characters would react to that situation.  If it sounds like I am being overly cautious with this explanation, I guess that is because I am.  I don’t know at this point how this story will play it’s self out or end, so I want to make it clear that this is my story, not someone else.  It is a work of fiction.

So, all that being said, please visit my new blog if you get a chance.  I have added a link to the side of this blog to make it easy to find.  I have also included a way to subscribe to Mind Shadows at the bottom of that blog.  That way you can be informed by email when a new chapter is posted.  And as alway, please post any comments or criticism either here or there.

Sorry to divert things with this infomercial.  Back to the real blog next time.
